Irish baby boy names have such a charming, unique sound to them. They’re unusual while still sounding like names, and I love them! In honor of Saint Patrick’s Day, here are 80 of my favorite Irish baby boy names.

Aidan The name Aidan is a boy’s name of Irish origin meaning “little and fiery”. Aidan was originally a pet form of the Irish name Aodh (pronounced ‘ee’), the name of the old Celtic god of the sun and fire. 

Aron This name means “mountain” and also has biblical origins.

Bard Bard is of English and Irish origin, and the meaning of Bard is “minstrel” or “singer-poet”.

Brady The name, Brady, is a boy’s name of Irish origin meaning “broad meadow” or large-chested”.

Brandon – The given name, Brandon, is a variant of the Irish given name, Brendan, and is an anglicised form of the Old Irish name, Bréanainn, and means “crow” or “beacon hill”.

Brendan Brendan is an Irish masculine given name, derived from the Gaelic name, Breandán. The Old Welsh breenhin is the root of the name, meaning “prince” or “king”.

Brennan –  This name is derived from the Irish surname, Brennan, and means “raven”, “sorrow”, “drop”, or “brave”.

Burke The name, Burke, means “from the fortress” and is of English origin.

Calhoun Calhoun is a charming Irish baby boy name and means “from the narrow forest”.

Callahan The name, Callahan, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “bright-headed”. This name has history back to the ancient King of Munster.

Clancy Clancy is an Irish name coming from the Gaelic Mac Fhlannchaidh, meaning “red warrior”. It’s also used as a nickname for Clarence.

Cian Pronounced Kee-an, Cian is a popular Irish male name, meaning “ancient”. In Irish mythology, Cian was the son-in-law of Brian Boru, King of Munster.

Cillian Cillian is a popular Irish name for baby boys meaning “little church”. It is usually pronounced Kill-eean.

Ciaran Ciarán or Ciaran is a traditionally male given name of Irish origin (Scottish-Gaelic spelling). It means “little dark one” or “little dark-haired one”.

Conan Conan, as a boy’s name, is pronounced KOH-nan. It is of English, Irish and Gaelic origin, and it means “hound”, or “wolf”.

Conor Conor is a male given name of Irish origin meaning “lover of wolves” or “lover of hounds”. 

Cormac The name, Cormac, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “charioteer” and is a classic Irish name runs through Celtic mythology.

Cory The name, Cory, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “from the hollow”.

Cullen Cullen  is of Irish and Gaelic origin and means is “good-looking lad” or “handsome”.

Declan Declan is an Irish given name, and an anglicized form of the Irish saint name Declán, also Deaglán or Déaglán. This name means “man of prayer” or “full of goodness”.

Derry The name, Derry, is a boy’s name of Irish origin meaning “like an oak”.

Devon This is a unisex name (though mostly given to boys in the US). Derived from the Irish “dámh,” Devin means “bard” or “poet.”

Diarmuid The name, Diarmuid, is a boy’s name meaning “free from envy” and is the old Irish spelling of Dermot / Diarmaid.

Dillon – Dillon is one of my favorite Irish baby boy names and means “like a lion” or “loyal”. 

Donal Donal is a boy’s name that comes from the Irish and Scottish name, Donnell, meaning “world mighty” or “brown-haired fighter”.

Donnacha The name, Donnacha, is a boy’s name meaning “brown-haired warrior”. While rare in the USA, Donnacha is one of the more popular names in Ireland. According to legend, Donnacha was a High King of Ireland until his death in 1064.

Donnelly – Donnelly is the anglicized form of the Gaelic “Ó Donnghaile” and means “decendent of Donnghal”.

Eamon Eamon (pronounced AY-mon) is of Irish, Gaelic, and Old English origin, and means “wealthy protector”.

Eoin Eoin (pronounced like Owen) is an Irish baby boy name of Irish origin and means “God is gracious”.

Faolan Faolan is of Irish and Gaelic origin and means “little wolf”.

Fergal The name, Fergal, is a boy’s name meaning “brave” or ”manly”. Very common in early Ireland and still in use there today, it was the name of an eighth-century high king and also a saint.

Fergus Fergus or Feargus is a common Scottish or Irish male given name derived from Scots Gaelic, meaning “the angry one”.

Ferris The name, Ferris, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “rock”.

Finn/Fionn It is derived from a byname meaning “white” or “fair-haired”.

Finbar Finbar is an Irish given name that may also be spelled Finbarr, Finbarre, or Finnbar. It is derived from Fionnbharr, an old Irish word meaning “fair-headed one”. The anglicized, shortened translation of Finbar is Barry.

Finnegan The name, Finnegan, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “fair”. 

Fintan The name, Fintan, is a boy’s name of Irish origin and means “white fire” or “white bull”. Fintan is an ancient Irish saints’ name that in legend is also the name of the only person to survive The Flood.

Flynn – Flynn is an Irish surname or first name, an anglicized form of the Irish “Ó Floinn”, meaning “descendant of Flann” or “ruddy”.

Gallagher The name, Gallagher, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “descendant of foreign helper”.

Garret The name, Garret, is a boy’s name of Irish origin that means “spear strength”.

Grady The name, Grady, is a boy’s name of Irish origin meaning “noble” or “illustrious”.

Hugh Hugh is of German, English, Irish origin and means “mind” or “intellect”.

Larkin Larkin is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and it means “rough” or “fierce”.

Lennon This is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “lover”.

Liam Liam means “strong-willed warrior” and “protector”. It’s a shorter form of the Irish name “Uilliam” which originated from the Frankish “Willahelm”, meaning “helmet of will.” It’s also a shortened version of “William”.

Lorcan Lorcan or Lorcán is an Irish language male given name, meaning “little fierce one”.

Mack The name, Mack, is a boy’s name of Scottish, Irish origin meaning “son of”.

Mccoy Mccoy is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “fire”.

Murphy This name is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and it means “sea warrior”.

Niall Niall (pronounced NYE-al) is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and means “champion”.

Nolan In Gaelic, Nolan means “a descendant of a chariot fighter” or “champion”. Other meanings are “famous” and “noble.”

Odhran Odhran as a boy’s name is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and means “pale”.

Oisin The name, Oisin, is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “little deer”. Oisin is one of the most popular Irish baby names in its native land, though largely unknown in the US.

Oran Oran, as a boy’s name, is of Aramaic, Irish and Gaelic origin, and it means “light” or “pale”.

Patrick The name, Patrick, means “pale”. Patrick is most commonly known as being the name of the patron saint of Ireland.

Piran Piran is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “prayer”.

Roan Roan is related to the Gaelic name Rowan. The meaning of Roan is “little red-head”.

Ruairi – Ruairi (pronounced “Rory”) is a baby boy’s name of Goidelic (Irish and Scottish Gaelic) origin. It translates as “red-haired king”. Historically, it has also been anglicized by replacement with the Germanic cognate Roderick. 

Sean Sean is the Irish version of the traditional John, meaning “God is gracious”.

Seanan The name, Seanan, is a boy’s name meaning “wise” or “old”. Seanan and its more-popular variation, Senan, are connected to the Latin word “senator” and are ancient saints’ names, but may also be thought of as diminutives of Sean.

Shane The name, Shane, is a boy’s name of Irish origin meaning “God is gracious”.

Sullivan Sullivan is of Irish origin, meaning “black-eyed one”, and Sully makes an adorable nickname to this Irish baby boy name.

Tiernan –  Tiernan, as a boy’s name, is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and it means “lord”.

Torin Torin (pronounced TOR-en) is of Gaelic origin and means “chief”.

Tully The name, Tully, means “mighty people”.

Tynan Tynan is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Tynan is “dark” or “dusty”.

Ultan – This is a boy’s name of Irish origin, meaning “man from Ulster”.

Veren – Veren is one of the more classy-sounding Irish baby boy names, meaning “great hero”.
